The following overview distinguishes between the discipline
that we teach, called Kempo Jujutsu; the particular style we use to teach
Kempo Jujutsu, called Seizan Ryu; and the organization that promotes the
doctrine of Seizan Ryu Kempo Jujutsu, collectively called the Academies
of Martial Arts.
Kempo Jujutsu
is a general term applied to certain types of traditional Japanese combat,
that stress unarmed techniques, but also deal with the use of small weapons.
It can therefore be utilized armed or unarmed, against armed or unarmed
opponents. In this system of self-defense, one can use the opponent's
"strengths" to defeat him through knowledge of anatomy and the
principle of leverage. By doing so you conserve energy while exhausting
your opponent. The tactics and strategies of Kempo Jujutsu emphasize rational,
efficient and simple solutions to close-quarter interpersonal conflict.
A heavy value is placed on mobility, the redirection of force and the
maintenance of one's balance. To carry out these strategies, a broad spectrum
of techniques is employed. Kempo Jujutsu methods are numerous, and include
strikes, punches, blocks, kicks, and sweeps, as well as grappling and
ground fighting maneuvers.
The practice of Kempo Jujutsu makes
the body more functional, efficient
and healthy while building character through discipline. It is the practice
of making the best use of physical and mental energy, and teaches us to
look for the most appropriate course of action, whatever the circumstances.
Kempo Jujutsu is a complete system of technique and tactic, but also a
psychological paradigm that leads us to the understanding that worry and
stress are a waste of energy.
